KPV is a synthetic tripeptide corresponding to the C-terminal fragment of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). It belongs to the melanocortin-derived tripeptide class.
In the published preclinical literature, KPV has been characterised at the molecular and cellular level: in cultured epithelial and immune cell models it is described as entering cells through the di- and tripeptide transporter PepT1 and as associating with the NF-kappaB and MAP kinase signalling pathways, with work also separating PepT1-mediated transport from melanocortin-receptor signalling. It is supplied as a research compound and is not intended for human or veterinary use.

Immobilized alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone 10-13 (GKPV) inhibits tumor necrosis factor-alpha stimulated NF-kappaB activity
In cultured HBL cells carrying an NF-kappaB-luciferase reporter, the study assayed NF-kappaB reporter activity under tumour-necrosis-factor-alpha stimulation, comparing immobilized GKPV (the KPV-containing alpha-MSH fragment) against the soluble peptide as a measured cell-signalling endpoint.
