Product details
SS-31 is a synthetic, cell-permeable aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide, one of the Szeto-Schiller class of mitochondria-targeting peptides. It concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it associates with the phospholipid cardiolipin rather than acting on a defined cell-surface receptor.
In the published preclinical literature, SS-31 has been characterised at the molecular level for how it binds cardiolipin and the inner mitochondrial membrane, with in-vitro and isolated-mitochondria work mapping its interaction with membrane lipids and electron-transport-chain proteins. It is supplied as a research compound and is not intended for human or veterinary use.

SS-31 has been characterised in preclinical laboratory models. The primary studies below, in isolated mitochondria, cell-free structural assays, and cultured cells, examined how the tetrapeptide associates with cardiolipin and the inner mitochondrial membrane and which membrane proteins it sits near. The literature is preclinical; it describes the compound, not any outcome in humans.
